ZTE Blade A520 clears Wi-Fi Alliance as NOS Novu III

ZTE Blade A520 or NOS NOVU III

In May, ZTE released the Blade A520, a phone that is aimed at the budget spenders. The phone had previously passed through the FCC, an indicator that the American people would be able to buy it.

Now, in a new development, the same ZTE Blade A520 has been cleared by the Wi-Fi Alliance as the NOS Novu III, which is obvious that it will be the successor to last year’s NOS Novu II. The latter was released in April 2016 and while folks in Portugal know it as the Novu II, those in other markets know the same phone as the ZTE Blade L5 Plus.

Looking at the two phones’ specs and features, you’ll agree that the Blade A520 is indeed the successor to the Blade L5 Plus. Where the former ships with a 5-inch HD display screen, a MediaTek MT6737 SoC paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, the latter has a similar 5-inch HD display screen, a MediaTek MT6580 SoC paired with just 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The Novu II can only handle a microSD card of up to 32GB whereas the Novu III takes this to the next level by supporting a massive 256GB card.

While the 8MP back camera on the new ZTE Blade A520 or rather NOS Novu III remains significantly unchanged from what was used on the NOS Novu II, which also includes support for autofocus and LED flash, there’s a huge change on the front camera. The new model has an 8MP shooter as opposed to the 2MP sensor used on the Blade L5 Plus.

There’s still no fingerprint scanner, but the battery capacity has been upped from 2150mAh on the 2016 model to 2400mAh on the 2017 model. You also get a small change in the connectivity standards, where the Novu III has Bluetooth 4.1 and the Novu II has v4.0. Furthermore, ZTE has introduced 4G LTE support on the new model whereas its predecessor only managed 3G connectivity.

The Blade A520 ships with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, a huge departure from the Lollipop version that powers the L5 Plus out of the box.

As noted, the Blade A520 was released in May and according to the WFA, this model has firmware version TEL_MX_BLADE_A520V1.0.0. As for the NOS Novu III variant, it comes with firmware version ZTE_BLADE_A520_EUNV1.0.0B01.
