A month ago, Xiaomi Mi 6 was launched and when the company put the phone up for sale, those who came in a few seconds later missed out on getting one.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 was first released in a black color variant and according to reports in China, the phone was nowhere to be seen after just seconds of going on sale. At the time of this first release, other color variants of the Mi 6 were nowhere to be seen, among them white, silver, blue and a special silver ceramic back edition.
Now, today, the Chinese OEM released the special edition variant of the Xiaomi Mi 6 and similar to the black edition, the phone was nowhere to be seen in just a matter of seconds. According to the company’s official website, the ceramic back edition is out of stock, yet it was made available for purchase for the first time today.
So, why is this Xiaomi Mi 6 phone in such huge demand in China? For starters, the ceramic back edition can be yours for CNY 2,999, which translates to about $435 (the base model sells for about $363). This is a price tag that is usually associated with midrange phones, but the Mi 6 is not your usual midranger. In fact, this phone is on the same page as the Galaxy S8 and S8+, yet it’s priced at half the price of the Samsung flagships.
For this half price, the Xiaomi Mi 6 gives you a 5.15-inch Full HD display screen, a Snapdragon 835 SoC, a massive 6GB RAM and two storage options of 64GB and 128GB. As for the ceramic back edition in question here, you are only limited to 128GB of storage. Both variants have no room for a microSD card slot.
The back of the Xiaomi Mi 6 has a dual 12MP+12MP camera with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS, PDAF and up to 2x optical zoom while the front gives you an 8MP shooter for selfies. This same front panel also houses a fingerprint scanner on the bottom bezel, but notably, the Mi 6 has no 3.5mm audio jack. In terms of battery capacity, the Mi 6 has a decent 3350mAh unit that supports USB-C fast charging technology and for the software, you get Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. The ceramic edition also adds 18K gold rims on the main camera sensor.
