A month ago, just before many WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 users were about to be locked out of using the app due to the ending support from the developers of the app, news broke the internet, reaffirming users of this Canadian company’s OS that they will still get an additional six months of support.
At the time, it was confirmed that WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry OS devices will keep on working until the very last day of this year. But somehow, some users of devices based on these platforms have been locked out of using the app in accordance with the previous announcement, which had set June 30 as the final day that the platforms would be supported.
If you are an affected user of WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 or BlackBerry OS with at least version 7 and above, you can still get to enjoy the app on your phone. The reason why you have been locked out is because when WhatsApp made the new announcement, an update was rolled out to the app and pushed to BlackBerry World, where the platforms’ apps are usually downloaded from.
As a result of this small change, users of WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 and OS had to subsequently download and install the new update from BlackBerry World, which had the extended support period running until December 31. If you did not update your installed app, it means that you are still using the old version that had been confirmed to be obsolete as from July 1, thus you are unable to keep on enjoying the app despite the extended support period.
In short, you’ll have to update your installed WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 or OS app via BlackBerry World in order to keep on enjoying the app on your BlackBerry phone. Or simply check for updates via the app itself, which should redirect you to the official BlackBerry app store.
