The last few years have overseen major changes in the smartphone industry, with a flurry of more affordable devices with mind-blowing specs and features hitting the local market at an alarming rate.
A long time ago, you had to break the bank in order to get your hands on a quality smartphone, but with the emergence of several smartphone makers, mainly from China, this is no more. Today, there is a growing number of smartphones that come with high-end specs and features yet priced at very affordable prices and one such phone is the UMi Plus E.
Probably unknown to many, UMi brand poses itself as a global electronics and technology company that has a following from over 20 countries across the globe and apparently, Kenya is one of them. Through Avechi, you can now get your hands on the most affordable 6GB RAM smartphone in Kenya – the UMi Plus E.
The UMi Plus E has an amazing set of specs alongside an elegant design. The company says that the phone is made of a 6000 series aluminum unibody that gives it a premium look, much like what you see on the iPhones of this world. The handset has a 5.5-inch LTPS display screen with a 2.5D Arc glass on top and Full HD resolution, but it is under the hood where all the beauty lies.
Here, the UMi Plus E is easily one of the best in the market with a MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz. This is then paired with a monster 6GB RAM and a decent 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card of up to 256GB. Although MediaTek processors are not as powerful as those from Qualcomm and Samsung, the Helio P series offers great performance that is capable enough to compete with other midrange chipsets from these renowned companies.
For the cameras, the UMi Plus E has a 13MP shooter on the back that features a dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, panorama and continuous shooting, among others. This shooter can also capture up to 4K videos. The front shooter gets a decent 5MP lens that shares the same video recording capabilities as the main camera. You also get a flash light for enhanced shots even when in the dark.
In terms of software, the UMi Plus E gives you the year-old Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a near-stock Android experience. However, there’s no word on whether this phone will be updated to Nougat or not. Keeping the phone alive is a massive 4000mAh battery unit that supports fast charging technology via the latest USB-C connectivity standard.
Other perks found on the UMi Plus E include a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, support for 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1, 3.5mm audio jack and a handful of sensors that include accelerometer, compass, Glonass and Hall switch, among others. The phone supports dual-SIM connectivity, but the second slot also doubles as the microSD card slot. Being an unlocked model, you can use it on both GSM and CDMA carriers without any issues.
To get your hands on the UMi Plus E, you need just Ksh 28,999. By far, this is the most affordable 6GB RAM smartphone in Kenya, with the next in line being the recently launched ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini that retails at Ksh 37, 499 via the same platform.
