Nokia 6 was launched at the CES 2017 earlier this month. The device marked the Finnish company’s return to the mobile industry after having a turbulent time with Microsoft’s Windows Phone.
Despite making its long-awaited return, the new phone was only availed to the Chinese market. There have been talks of a possible international variant in the works, something that was to be determined after assessing the performance of the phone in China, but HMD Global has kept quiet on the matter.
Less than one week ago, the Nokia 6 was listed on JD.com or rather JingDong Mall for a price of CNY 1,699, which is just below $250. In just one minute, all available units were gone. Apparently, the retailer had received more than 1 million pre-registrations for the phone and when it was put up for sale, it sold out immediately, which meant the company had to arrange a new flash sale. According to the latest reports, it’s happening this week Thursday via the same seller, JD.com. The price hasn’t changed just yet.
In order to be considered, you need to pre-register for the phone via the said JD.com This process will cost you $9, but this doesn’t guarantee that you will be able to buy the Nokia 6 when the flash sale goes live.
So, what makes this Nokia 6 such a popular phone in China other than the phone’s brand name? Well, the midrange handset comes with a decent 5.5-inch Full HD display screen with a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3 on top of it. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 runs the show. It is paired with an Adreno 505 graphics processing unit and a RAM of 4GB. There is a decent storage of 64GB and if this is not enough for you, the phone also ships with a microSD card slot that can accommodate up to 128GB.
Camera-wise, the Nokia 6 has a 16MP lens on the back. This powerful lens comes with features such as PDAF and dual-tone LED flash. On the front side, there is an 8MP shooter that can capture wide-angle selfies of up to 84 degrees. You will for sure love the audio output of this first Android-powered Nokia phone thanks to a dual set of stereo speakers that include dual smart amplifiers as well as Dolby ATMOS.
There is a fingerprint scanner on the physical home button, something that is becoming common in midrange phones. To keep the lights on you get a 3000mAh battery. Nokia 6 comes with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and is available in black and silver, although the latter has yet to be availed so far.
