While the phone has already been released in a number of markets, only the Nokia 6 has been selling in Kenya so far. At the death of last month, it was confirmed that the new Nokia 5 will make its official debut in South Africa before the end of this month.
While there was no word on the phone’s debut in Kenya, we can confirm that you can now get your hands on the new Nokia 5 here in Kenya as at the time of this writing. The global pricing of the phone is 189 euros, which translates to about Ksh 22,855, however, Phones Arena Kenya is selling you the same phone at a much better price tag of just Ksh 19,500.
For this price, you get a brand new Nokia 5 that comes with a 5.2-inch LCD display screen with an HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and Gorilla Glass protection, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core clocked at 1.4GHz and paired with a RAM of 2GB. The storage capacity is not that big at 16GB, but you get room to expand it via a microSD card slot that can house up to 128GB.
For the optics, the new Nokia 5 has a 13MP shooter on the back with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, dual-tone LED flash and support for 1080p video capture. The selfie camera has an impressive 8MP lens with the same aperture and support for 1080p video recording as well. Given the HD resolution is not so much of a battery hog, you will enjoy a longer battery life with the 3000mAh unit on board, but unfortunately, there’s no support for fast charging technology like with the case of the Nokia 6 despite the two using the same processor.
The new Nokia 5 is powered by Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and is available in Tempered Blue, Silver, Copper and Matte Black, but you probably won’t find this entire color collection on Phones Arena Kenya.
Update: Jumia Kenya is also selling the Nokia 5 at a price of Ksh 19,499.
