It’s about that time of the year that new Tecno Phantom and Infinix Zero flagships are almost breaking cover. This year, the two companies are expected to unveil the Tecno Phantom 7 and Infinix Zero 5 as successors to last year’s Phantom 6 and Zero 4, respectively.
So far, the two have not said a thing regarding the flagship phones, but this doesn’t mean we have no idea of what is in the works thanks to leaks and rumors. In fact, the latest developments are not just based on rumors, but they come courtesy of benchmarks, suggesting that both Tecno Phantom 7 and Infinix Zero 5 are in the works.
Last year’s Tecno Phantom 6 Plus and Infinix Zero 4 Plus had some similarities in terms of performance specs. We expect nothing different this year, but to set them apart, a few tweaks here and there will be inevitable. As at the time of this writing, we have some details on the expected hardware specs of the Phantom 7 as well as Zero 5 flagships. While we are confident about the former, the details we have about the latter could instead turn out to be for the high-end Infinix Zero 5 Plus.
Apparently, a Geekbench listing has recently confirmed that the Tecno Phantom 7 will be powered by a Helio P25 processor mated with 4GB of RAM. Last year’s Phantom 6 had a Helio P10 running the show alongside 3GB RAM and from the look of things, this is a significant performance upgrade being lined up. In another GFXBench listing, the Phantom 7 has been confirmed with a 6-inch 1080p display screen, 32GB of internal storage, a 13MP camera on the back with AF, face detection, LED flash, HDR and 4K video recording as well as a 5MP selfie shooter that can record up to 1080p videos.
A separate GFXBench listing revealed an Infinix phone with model number X603. Initially, this was thought to be the Note 4 Pro, but it appears that this phone could succeed the Infinix Zero 4 Plus, which had model number X602.
In the benchmarks, the Infinix X603 handset has the same Helio P25 SoC that is set to power the Tecno Phantom 7, but the RAM is much bigger at 6GB. The listing on GFXBench gives us more details with respect to the alleged Infinix Zero 5. The phone will feature 64GB of internal storage, a 6-inch 1080p display screen and a 13MP/5MP camera combination on the back and front. As expected, both phones will be powered by Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
One thing worth noting, though, is that the Phantom 6 Plus and Infinix Zero 4 Plus had the superior Helio X20 processor on board. It would only be ideal if their successors came in with Helio X25 or the newer Helio X30 chipset in order to keep their flagship status. If this is the case, it’s possible that the X603 could be the standard Infinix Zero 5 and both the Phantom 7 Plus and Zero 5 Plus will ship with more powerful specs than their entry-level counterparts. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
