Benchmarks are one of the best ways to test the hardware and software performance of different smartphones in the market and one of the top benchmarking platforms out there is Geekbench.
While many of you might know that Samsung Galaxy S6 is a high-end phone that was released by the company in 2015 and still sells in Kenya at about 42K, you should also be knowing that the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus is the Chinese company’s high-end phone, but it sells at more than 10K less than what the Galaxy S6 is priced at.
Well, according to benchmarks performed on these two phones, it appears that you don’t need to spend more just so as to get your hands on Samsung Galaxy S6. In fact, the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus proves to be a more powerful option, in this case, clocking a single-core score of 1604 compared to the 1391 score managed by the Galaxy S6. As for the multi-core tests, the Phantom 6 Plus managed an impressive 4681 as opposed to Sammy’s 4200.
These scores are enough to conclude that the Galaxy S6 has slightly weaker hardware specs when compared to the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus, especially since the two have the same Android 6.0 Marshmallow running the show. Under the hood, the S6 packs an Exynos 7420 octa-core that is clocked at a speed of 1.5GHz and is paired with a 3GB RAM. As for the Phantom 6 Plus, you get a powerful MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor that is clocked at 1.39GHz and is paired with a bigger 4GB RAM, which is probably why it scores higher in both tests.
Other specs of the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S6 include a 5.95 1080p screen for the former and 5.1-inch QHD panel for the latter. The Tecno phone has a massive 21MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture whereas the S6 has a 16MP shooter on the back with a slightly bigger aperture of f/1.9. This means the latter lets in more light than the former, hence better shots even when in the dark. The front of the S6 has a 5MP shooter while the Phantom 6 Plus takes it a step ahead with an 8MP shooter.
There’re obviously more camera features on the Galaxy S6, but you will only find the likes of true tone flash and 4X digital zoom on the Techno Phantom 6 Plus. The latter trounces the former when it comes to authentication as it supports both fingerprint and iris scanning as opposed to Galaxy S6’s fingerprint scanner only. The Phantom 6 Plus also gets a bigger 4050mAh battery compared to the smaller 2550mAh battery on the S6, but both support fast charging, although the S6 uses a microUSB port while the 6 Plus has a USB-C port.
