Tecno Mobile Quiet on Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus Android 7.0 Nougat Update and Fans are not Happy

Tecno Phantom 6 and Tecno Phantom 6 Plus Android 7.0 Nougat

At a time when Infinix Mobility is busy rolling out the latest Android 7.0 Nougat to the likes of Infinix Note 3 and Infinix Note 3 Pro, many of those using the high-end Tecno Phantom 6 or Phantom 6 Plus had believed that they’d also be receiving the same treat.

To their surprise, Tecno Mobile has remained silent on the Nougat update matter, something that has left many Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus users unhappy at the treatment. In case you didn’t know, the two Phantom 6 phones are the company’s current high-end models and they were released last year with Android Marshmallow running the show.

Unlike Infinix Mobility that has been open with its customers, giving out a clear roadmap of when users of several Infinix phones can expect to see Android 7.0 Nougat OTA notifications, Tecno Mobile hasn’t given out any indication that it’s working on upgrading the software running on any of its devices, including the high-end Tecno Phantom 6 and 6 Plus. This, as expected, has not gone down well with users of the two phones.

There’s hope

Many have taken to the official Tecno Mobile forum to air their frustrations, but up to now, the Chinese OEM has yet to come out and clear the air. Still, there’s some hope at the end of the tunnel.

Sony Xperia XA Ultra vs TECNO Phantom 6 Plus

Usually, one of the major reasons OEMs skip software updates for certain devices is due to hardware incompatibility. Well, Tecno Phantom 6 Plus ships with the same hardware specs as the Infinix Zero 4 Plus, a phone that has been scheduled to receive the Nougat treat in the coming weeks. In short, Tecno Mobile won’t be in a position to claim hardware compatibility is behind the unavailability of software updates for the Phantom 6 Plus.

Still, this doesn’t mean that the update will indeed be rolled out, however, we are optimistic that at least the larger Phantom 6 Plus will get the Nougat treat, especially since the company has already released several lower-specced devices with the latest OS running the show. On the contrary, this step would leave those on the standard Phantom 6 a very unhappy group.
