In 2016, fans of Sony Xperia phones were surprised when the Japanese tech giant did the unthinkable, ditching the dedicated microSD card slot on its dual-SIM variants in favor of a hybrid SIM tray.
The Sony Xperia XZ was one of the victims of this change, which meant that those who purchased the dual-SIM variant had to do with using either two SIM cards without an SD card or introduce the latter at the expense of one SIM card. When the Xperia XZs was recently introduced, it happened that it had the same feature as the standard XZ – a hybrid SIM tray.
Now, even though the new Sony Xperia XZ Premium is of the same family as the original Xperia XZ and the Xperia XZs, the tech giant will not keep the same trend as far as the Xperia XZ Premium Dual variant is concerned. Unlike previous cases, the Dual SIM variant of this phone will go back to the dedicated microSD card slot, much to the delight of many fans.
This means that users of the Xperia XZ Premium Dual will be able to have two SIM cards and a microSD card on their phone all at once. This will also be the case for the dual-SIM variants of the Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra.
Update: Apparently, Sony France was wrong as the phones are still using the hybrid SIM tray, which also means the tweet has been deleted.
