Samsung has taken the phablet battle to the next level with the release of Galaxy S6 Edge. This mega-sized smartphone was launched a few days ago and it is set to launch in the United States on the 21st of August 2015.
This is huge and at the same time great news for Samsung enthusiasts who had been anticipating for this new development. But what really is in this new Edge+ smartphone from Samsung?
The first thing to look at when buying a smartphone, especially in these risky economic times, is the price. Well, there is no doubt that many flagships come with hefty prices and for sure, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is no different from them. The 32GB variant is priced at $780 while the 64GB variant is priced at $880.
In case you hadn’t noticed, the new Galaxy S6 Edge+ is meant to take on the giant iPhone 6 Plus from Apple and as a result, the pricing is somewhere the same.
A revamped version of Galaxy S6 Edge
There is a trend of having a ‘Plus’ version of a phone and this was made even further solid when Apple rolled out the iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung rolled out Galaxy S6 Edge a few months ago and now it has followed it with a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, which simply represents a beefed-up version of the former phone. One noticeable change is the size of the RAM where the latest Edge comes with 4GB of RAM as compared to the 3GB installed on the Galaxy S6 Edge.
So, what are some of the first things you see upon setting your eyes on this new Galaxy S6 Edge+?
Design and display
In the real sense, it is very hard to notice any change in the design of these two phones. The only noticeable thing is that the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is larger with its 5.7 inches of screen display when compared to the 5.1 inches you get on its counterpart. This means that there are some differences in the measurements of the two phones as well.
You will be in for a classy look as well as a sturdy feel with this new device thanks to the premium glass and metal chassis. Even though it has a bigger size, the curved edges play a key role in ensuring that the phone firmly fits into your hand.
The display screen has Super AMOLED as well as QHD display technology that make the display of this phone amazing. One little disadvantage about this phone is that it will not let go of your fingerprints and the problem is that there is nothing you can really do about it. There is no microSD slot and the battery unit is non-removable.
Processor and memory
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ comes in three variants. Each of these variants has the same processor and RAM; however, they differ when it comes to internal storage. The S6 Edge+ has an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor that is clocked at 1.5GHz and 2.1GHz and supports 64-bit processing. As noted earlier, you will find a RAM of 4GB in this device and when it comes to storage space, there is a 32GB model, 64GB model and a 128GB model.
Software and camera
Samsung rolled out the Galaxy S6 Edge+ with the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. In addition, the company’s TouchWiz UI has also been included, but it is a lot slimmer than with the previous versions.
The S6 Edge+ comes with a similarly powerful camera as that available on the S6 Edge. There is a 16MP snapper on the rear of the former and a front-facing camera of 5MP. The rear camera supports optical image stabilization and has an aperture of f/1.9. To launch the camera app, simply double-tap on the home button.
