Many of those using the original Samsung Galaxy J7 are still unsure whether the device will receive the update to Android 7.0 Nougat or not.
Released in June 2015, the original Samsung Galaxy J7 has already received one major OS upgrade in the shape of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Given that it’s not common for a budget Samsung phone to receive two major OS upgrades, it’s understandable that many out there have been unsure about the phone’s update status with respect to Android 7.0 Nougat.
However, following a couple of appearances on the Wi-Fi Alliance back in June, where the organization certified two variants of the phone with model numbers SM-J701M and SM-J701F, this was plenty of proof that Samsung Galaxy J7 2015 was being lined up for an update to Nougat.
Usually, when a phone has been cleared by the Wi-Fi Alliance for a given OS update, it takes a few weeks before the device in question starts receiving the OTA update. Well, it’s close to two months since Samsung Galaxy J7 2015 last appeared on the WFA, an indicator that the OS should be rolling out soon.
To add more weight to this speculation, a previous report by Samsung Turkey – which was later removed from the official website – had confirmed that the J7 2015 will receive the update to Nougat on August 28, a date that is just a couple of weeks away.
This date has not yet been reiterated by Samsung, but looking at how things are unfolding, it makes sense for current Samsung Galaxy J7 2015 owners to expect the OS to start rolling out on or around this date. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you up to date.
