Samsung is getting ready to update the Galaxy J3 2016 and Galaxy J5 2016 models to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen several instances of the Galaxy J7 2016 appearing online with Android 7.0 Nougat, suggesting that the tech giant will be rolling out the update really soon. In early June, the phone appeared on GFXBench with Nougat on board and late last month, multiple variants of the same phone were cleared to receive this OS by the Wi-Fi Alliance.
At the time, talk of the entry-level Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 and the next in line Galaxy J5 2016 was nowhere to be seen. However, the sun has started shining on the other side, with the Wi-Fi Alliance having just cleared the two phones to receive the update to Android 7.0 Nougat.
History tells us that once a device is cleared by the Wi-Fi Alliance, it shouldn’t be long before the OS starts rolling out. But since the Galaxy J7 2016 was cleared a month ago and yet the OS has not started rolling out, it could take a similar time (or maybe less/more) before the Galaxy J3 2016 and Galaxy J5 2016 start getting the OTA notification to download and install Nougat.
There are multiple variants of the two phones that have been cleared in readiness to receive Android 7.0 Nougat. For the Galaxy J3 2016, we have model numbers SM-J320A, SM-J320W8, SM-J320AZ and SM-J321AZ. As for the Galaxy J5 2016, the model numbers cleared are SM-J510F, SM-J510FQ, SM-J510FN, SM-J510FN/DS, SM-J510FN/DD, SM-J510K, SM-J510L, SM-J510F/DS, SM-J510UN/DS, SM-J510GN, SM-J510GN/DS, SM-J510MN/DS, SM-J510H/DS, SM-J510MN, SM-J510S, and SM-J5108.
As noted, the Wi-Fi Alliance might have declared both Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 and Galaxy J5 2016 ready to receive the update to Android 7.0 Nougat, but it’s the company that will determine the exact date the OS will start rolling out. Stay tuned and we’ll update you when this happens.
