Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 and Galaxy A5 2017 are finally available for purchase in the UK, about a month after the two were launched in early January.
While the two had already been launched in a few other markets including Russia and Malaysia, those in the UK can now get their hands on any of the Galaxy A3 2017 or Galaxy A5 2017. At launch, the Korean tech giant unveiled three handsets in the Galaxy A 2017 series, but the larger Galaxy A7 2017 will not be making it to these parts of the world.
In addition to being available via the official Samsung online store, those in the UK can also get these phones from a number of retailers, including Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse. At the moment, the low-end Galaxy A3 2017 is valued at £279 ($347) while the Galaxy A5 2017 is priced at £369, which is about $459.
The two phones are almost identical in terms of design, however, they carry different specs under the hood. For the Galaxy A3 2017, you get a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED screen that ships with a 720p resolution. Under the hood, the entry-level handset has an octa-core processor that is clocked at a speed of 1.6GHz and is paired with a RAM of 2GB. The back has a 13MP shooter while the selfie shooter comes with an 8MP lens. To keep it alive, there is a 2350mAh battery unit, but it’s not removable.
The major highlight of the phone’s design, similar to the Galaxy A5 2017 and Galaxy A7 2017, is the IP68 certification it shares with the flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. This feature means that the phone can survive up to 30 minutes in water that is 1.5 meters deep. For those who find walking around with a wallet full of cash, credit or debit cards, the Galaxy A3 2017 has Samsung Pay out of the box for making mobile payments.
As for the Galaxy A5 2017, the design language remains the same, but as noted earlier, the screen size and specs under the hood are quite different. For starters, you get a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with a Full HD resolution. The processor running the show is an octa-core clocked at a speed of 1.9GHz and is paired with a RAM of 3GB alongside 32GB of expandable storage. The front and back cameras come with 16MP lenses and to keep the phone alive, there is a 3000mAh battery unit.
