Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are still weeks away from launch, but anticipation is high not just from fans, but also from the company itself.
After the release of the LG G6 in South Korea, which is well ahead of Samsung’s expected release of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ somewhere in mid-April, the latter company has decided to play a ‘dirty’ game by airing a TV commercial that is basically aimed at distracting the huge attention that is currently going the G6’s way. So far, the LG flagship reportedly sold over 20,000 units on the first day and added another 10,000 units on the second day, figures that Samsung sees as a huge threat towards the chances of the upcoming S8 and S8+ handsets becoming major hits in the same market.
In order to remind people that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are on the way, the tech giant turned to the country’s media to air a 15-second commercial advert that teases the upcoming phones. There’s not much that the video says other than reminding viewers that the S8 phones will be confirmed in the final week of this month.
Samsung is right to look at the LG G6 as a serious threat in the smartphone market. Unlike the LG G5, the new model has a great appeal to the eye thanks to its huge 5.7-inch screen that features very slim bezels and a unique 18:9 aspect ratio. The specs under the hood are equally powerful, boasting a Snapdragon 821 SoC that is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage with support for expandable storage. The back has a 13MP dual-lens camera while the front gets a 5MP shooter for selfies.
To keep the G6 alive is a 3300mAh battery unit that supports fast charging via a USB-C port, but this time the battery is inbuilt, unlike in the past where LG flagships have featured removable battery units. Perhaps what could give Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ an edge over the LG G6 is the new Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is why the company feels the need to remind folks that phones with a newer and more powerful processor are just around the corner.
