Xiaomi is one of the best smartphone OEMs when it comes to price vs specs combination. The company has a reputation of releasing phones with premium builds, top-notch specs, yet priced very affordably.
The 2016 Xiaomi Mi 5 is no different, a phone that was released to compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5, Sony Xperia X Performance and many others. The Mi 5 has the same hardware configuration as the listed competitors, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, but the phone was priced at below $350 at launch.
Now, in a weird occurrence, it appears that the Chinese company is working on a slimmed-down version of the Xiaomi Mi 5 which could go by the name Xiaomi Mi 5X. The report is coming from China and it further gives us details of what to expect when this phone comes out.
As per the leak, the alleged Xiaomi Mi 5X will come with a bigger 5.5-inch 1080p display screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. A separate report on the same also reveals a dual-lens camera on the back, which could also mean this phone might be the cheaper variant of the recent Xiaomi Mi 6 that sports a dual-lens camera as well.

There are also some details on the expected pricing of the alleged Xiaomi Mi 5X, where it will cost CNY 1,999 in China, a price that translates to about $295 or Ksh 30,700. If this phone breaks cover, it will be the second variant of the Mi 5 to come out this year following the release of the Mi 5C, the first to be powered by the company’s in-house Surge S1 chipset.
Similar to any other leak, take this one with a pinch of salt. Keep following and we’ll keep you updated on more details as they pop up.
