OnePlus recently confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will be unveiled on June 20 and so far, it appears that the phone will be available for purchase on the following day.
The Chinese OEM saw huge success with the 2016 OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T and from what the rumors and leaks have, the upcoming OnePlus 5 will be even better. We’ve heard of a fresh design, dual-lens camera and top-notch hardware specs and apparently, all these goodies will come at a price.
One thing that has made OnePlus such a success is the ability to sell phones with high-end specs and features at budget prices. This has been the case since OnePlus One and last year’s OnePlus 3 family was no different, boasting the same – or better – hardware specs as the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7, Google Pixel, Sony Xperia XZ and so on, yet priced at about half of what these other flagships cost.
As for the new OnePlus 5, this love story is about to change, with reports surfacing from Europe’s Finland claiming that the phone will be available on June 21 priced at €550. Even though this will be more expensive than the price of the OnePlus 3T, this is still a decent price, especially when considering the list of specs that have been touted for the phone.
The company has already confirmed that OnePlus 5 will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. While there have been uncertainties over the RAM capacity, renowned tipster Evan Blass says that the flagship killer will ship with a massive 8GB RAM module, 2GB more than the module used on the 2016 models.
The phone is also expected to keep the same 5.5-inch AMOLED display screen, but this time the resolution could be way better – QHD – than last year’s Full HD. The phone is expected to come with a dual camera module on the back, a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat and a decent 3300mAh battery unit.
Unlike last year where the OnePlus 3 and 3T only appeared in two major color variants, the new OnePlus 5 could be launched in up to five color variants. The much anticipated black color variant, which made its debut with the OnePlus 3T Colette Edition, will reportedly be joined by red, blue, purple and green color variants. Note that this is an unconfirmed report and as such, anything might change.
For those in India, OnePlus 5 will be unveiled on June 22 and in fact, Amazon India is already accepting registrations for the phone so that you can be notified when it arrives. In Kenya, Avechi.com sells OnePlus phones, which should mean the retailer will also make the new OnePlus 5 available locally.
