Oppo F3 Plus vs. Moto Z2 Play – Same Price, but which is the better deal?

Oppo F3 Plus vs Moto Z2 Play

Oppo F3 Plus and its smaller brother Oppo F3 came to life early last month and started selling in mid-May, but the phone is already seeing its first major discount in India.

Apparently, the Oppo F3 Plus, which was launched at a price tag of Rs 30,990, has been discounted by an impressive Rs 3,000. With this discount, it means that the phone is now available at the same price as the newly launched Moto Z2 Play, which has a price tag of Rs 27,999.

If you are in the market for a new phone, these two are definitely worth it. Before the discount, one would have easily considered the Moto Z2 Play from a price perspective. But now that the price war is settled, what makes any of the two phones a better deal? Keep reading!

Design and display

As far as design is concerned, the two phones are without a doubt wonderfully made. However, the Moto Z2 Play takes this game to the next level with its modular design that allows the introduction of different accessories. Otherwise, the two are stunningly sleek pieces of hardware to gaze at, if you ask me.

As far as the display is concerned, the Oppo F3 Plus is huge with its 6-inch Full HD LCD display screen. This should also give you a picture of how big the phone is compared to the 5.5-inch Moto Z2 Play, which comes with a better Full HD resolution Super AMOLED panel. Motorola, however, lags behind when it comes to screen protection with its Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology compared to the latest Gorilla Glass 5 used on the F3 Plus.

Hardware and software

In terms of hardware, the Oppo F3 Plus is miles ahead of the Moto Z2 Play. The phone ships with a superior Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. On the other hand, the Z2 Play has a weaker Snapdragon 626 SoC, although the RAM and storage are the same at 4GB and 64GB. Motorola fans in other markets can also get a base model of 32GB and 3GB RAM, if they wish to, but this model is not available in India.

In terms of software, the Moto Z2 Play is way ahead of the Oppo F3 Plus. Where the former comes with a near-stock Android 7.1 Nougat OS, the latter has the old Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board, which is based on the company’s ColorOS 3.0.Oppo F3 Plus vs Moto Z2 Play

Camera and battery capacity

Another tough battle between these two is the camera segment. Where the Moto Z2 Play ships with a decent 12MP shooter on the back with a small f/1.7 aperture, phase detection and laser autofocus, auto-HDR, panorama, dual-tone LED flash and 4K video recording; the Oppo F3 Plus has a similarly capable 16MP shooter on the rear with the same aperture, PDAF, OIS, dual-tone LED flash, panorama as well as ability to record up to 4K videos.

It gets even better for the Oppo F3 Plus when it comes to the front camera, where the phone packs a massive dual 16MP+8MP shooter with a decent f/2.0 aperture and ability to record 1080p videos. The Moto Z2 Play, on the other hand, has a 5MP lens with the same aperture, but spices things a little bit with the addition of a dual-tone LED flash alongside support for 1080p video recording.

Coming to the battery capacity, Motorola is well beaten here with its 3000mAh unit as compared to the massive 4000mAh unit used on the Oppo F3 Plus. The latter also supports VOOC fast charging via a microUSB 2.0 port, has a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, and supports Bluetooth 4.1 as well as 4G LTE connectivity.

The Moto Z2 Play’s 3000mAh unit is charged via the latest USB-C port, which also supports fast charging technology. Like the Oppo F3 Plus, the fingerprint scanner is front-mounted, there’s support for Bluetooth 4.2 as well as 4G LTE connectivity.
