OnePlus 5 is the next big thing from the Chinese flagship killer company OnePlus. A subsidiary of Oppo, the OEM has grown its stature in the recent past thanks to the success of the OnePlus 3 and 3T released in 2016.
With the huge success of the two OnePlus 3 phones, anticipation in the OnePlus 5 camp is at a record high, something the company’s co-founder Carl Pei has been quick to note. The company recently seconded a post published by The Verge saying that the company will skip from OnePlus 3T to OnePlus 5, thus dropping the number 4, which is associated with death in China and other Asian countries.
Now, as if to confirm this new development, the company has just released a teaser that adds more weight to the OnePlus 5 name. Through its official Weibo account, OnePlus has posted the words “Hello 5” followed by the caption “Hey Summer! Give me five!” Of course, the company is not dumb and as such, it didn’t make any mention of OnePlus 5 in the whole thing, but the repeated use of 5 (five) in the post is a no brainer. The OEM also mentions something to do with the release date, which suggests that the OnePlus 5 will be here in the summer.
We don’t really know the exact specs that the phone will ship with, but recent rumors have suggested that a dual-lens camera is in the works. While these are just rumors, leaked sketches of the alleged OnePlus 5 do confirm a dual-lens camera not only on the back, but also on the front panel. The back panel will have a glass section housing the cameras, something that could also mean the phone gets wireless charging technology.
There’s still room for a 3.5mm headphone jack on the sketches alongside a USB-C port and speaker grill. The fingerprint scanner should keep its current position on the 3T and while the sketches are just, well, sketches, they don’t give out the details of the expected specs. Nonetheless, rumors have pointed towards the same 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with an upgraded 2K display resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with at least 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, a 23MP back camera and 16MP selfie camera, a 3600mAh battery unit with Dash Charge 2.0 and the new Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.
