OnePlus 3 and 3T are two of the best-selling OnePlus phones in the market right now. The pair was released in 2016 and so far, a newer model in the shape of OnePlus 5 is already available for purchase.
When a new phone is released, doubts start emerging over the company’s commitment towards the outgoing models. This is even worse in the case of OnePlus fans thanks to the fact that the release of the OnePlus 3 and 3T meant that the previous OnePlus 2 suddenly turned into an old phone.
It’s true the OnePlus 2 is quite old following its 2015 release, however, there is a good number of handsets from the same year that have already been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. But according to OnePlus, this 2015 handset did not deserve an update to the new OS due to its age or rather the shift in the company’s focus to the new OnePlus 3 and 3T.
Now that the OnePlus 5 is here, some users of the 2016 models had started getting worried on matters of software updates, thinking that the Chinese OEM might do a similar thing as what happened with the OnePlus 2. However, there’s some really good news here.
According to the company, the OnePlus 3 and 3T will be updated to the new Android O before this year comes to an end. Even though the pair also received the update to Nougat before the conclusion of 2016, the update started rolling out on the final day of the year. Whether this will be the case as far as Android O is concerned is still unclear, but the big deal is that the OEM has confirmed the update will be made available this year.
With OnePlus 3 and 3T set to receive the new OS before the end of the year, those using the new OnePlus 5 can also expect the same to come their way at about the same time or maybe earlier.
