OnePlus 2 was released in 2015 with Android Lollipop running the show and after Android Marshmallow was released, the flagship killer was also updated to the newer OS.
But unlike other 2015 flagships that include the likes of Samsung Galaxy S6, Google Nexus 6P, Sony Xperia Z5, OnePlus 2 users have yet to see the update to Android 7.0 Nougat come their way. This gets even worse considering that the 2016 OnePlus 3 and 3T have not only been updated to Nougat, but also to a newer version of the same OS.
While this is happening to OnePlus 3 and 3T users, those using the older OnePlus 2 have no idea as to when the Chinese OEM will be rolling out an OTA update to the phone. But looking at what has just appeared on Geekbench, it seems as if the tech giant is working on an update to Nougat.
The phone has been benchmarked with Android 7.1.2 Nougat installed and so far, the performance scores are quite impressive when compared to scores recorded with Android Marshmallow on board. Android Nougat carries a bunch of new features as well as performance enhancements and these are evident in the single-core and multi-core scores recorded.
Where the phone managed a score of 1479 during single-core tests, it got even better when on multi-core tests, where the recorded score was 3473. These scores were achieved thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz and paired with a RAM of 4GB, a confirmation that this is the high-end variant of the OnePlus 2 phone (the base model has 3GB RAM).
Even though OnePlus 2 has been listed on Geekbench with Android 7.1.2 Nougat on board, there’s still no word from OnePlus regarding the date that users of the phone can expect to see the OTA update. But if this listing is to be believed, the OEM should currently be doing some tests of the OS on the device in readiness for a release. We’ll follow up the matter and keep you updated. Stay tuned.
