The latest Xiaomi MIUI 8.1 ROM has remained quite elusive for many users of Xiaomi Redmi and Mi devices, but this is no more for the group using the Qualcomm-based variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.
The Qualcomm-powered Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is still very fresh in the market, having made its way to the Indian market not so long ago. The device comes preinstalled with the year-old Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box alongside the MIUI 8.0 skin on top. After just weeks in the market, the Chinese OEM is rolling out a new version of this skin, which takes it to v22.214.171.124, however, many Redmi Note 4 owners will be disappointed to know that this ROM is still based on the older Marshmallow OS.
At a time when many Xiaomi fans are looking forward to the release of the MIUI ROM that is based on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat, this version is still not delivering on these expectations, which means the wait is still on.
Despite missing out on the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS, the updated MIUI 8.1 ROM brings a number of improvements and optimizations like enhanced auto-brightness mode, among others. Whether this release will soon be followed by the MIUI 8.2 version that has already hit other Xiaomi devices is still unknown. In addition, we can’t tell whether this same ROM can be used on the Redmi Note 4X, which shares the same specs as the Qualcomm-based Redmi Note 4. As for Android 7.0 Nougat update, it should come out at a later time, probably in H2 2017.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p screen with 401ppi, a Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of expandable storage. The phone has a 13MP main camera and a 5MP shooter on the front and to keep it alive is a 4100mAh battery that is not removable. As noted earlier, the Redmi Note 4 has Android Marshmallow running the show out of the box with MIUI 8.0 on top.
