The Moto G5 Plus was announced in February this year, but it has taken it months to hit the Kenyan market.
At the time of its launch, it was confirmed that the phone will be coming to Kenya via Safaricom and indeed it is here, retailing at a price of Ksh 31,999. One would be asking what the Moto G5 Plus brings to the fold that gives it this price tag.
Well, for starters, the Moto G5 Plus is the first in its class to come with a precision-crafted metallic unibody design made from high-grade aluminum. This premium material gives the phone a similarly premium feel and general look, but this is not all that the phone has to offer. The screen size is 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, translating to a crystal pixel density of 424ppi. The screen is also protected from catching scratches or breaking thanks to Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3.
In terms of performance, the phone has a powerful midrange processor in the shape of Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 clocked at 2.0GHz and mated with a RAM of 3GB. For the storage, the G5 Plus has a decent 32GB package that can also be expanded via a microSD card of up to 256GB.
According to Motorola, the Moto G5 Plus is the best in its class as far as photography is concerned. The phone ships with a 12MP shooter on the back, which has a large f/1.7 aperture for superior performance in low-light conditions. To improve this low-light performance, the camera is supported by a dual-tone LED flash for lighting up the place.
Other features you find on the main camera include autofocus, auto-HDR, panorama, face detection and support for 4K video recording. On the front part, you get a 5MP lens with a slightly smaller aperture of f/2.2. Keeping the Moto G5 Plus alive is a decent 3000mAh non-removable battery unit that supports fast charging technology via a microUSB port.
Like many other midrange phones, the Moto G5 Plus has a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, supports 4G LTE connectivity, has Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm audio jack and runs the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS (near stock) out of the box. To add some spice to the deal, Safaricom is offering 1GB of free data with each purchase of the G5 Plus.
