Apple fans have cut frustrated faces after seeing what Samsung has recently done with the Galaxy S8. In fact, Sammy has been ahead in the design game for a few years now, but it appears that this year’s iPhone 8 is here to reclaim what has been Apple’s for years.
The American tech giant has always been the idol for many OEMs when it comes to smartphone designs. However, nothing new has come from Cupertino for the past three years dating back to 2014 when the iPhone 6 was released. In 2015, an identical iPhone 6S was unveiled and last year, the company failed many fans by sticking to the same design as its previous two models.
Given that this year will mark the company’s 10th anniversary into the smartphone business, the tech giant has something special coming your way in the shape of iPhone 8. If the latest video leak is anything to go by, the phone will be a real beauty, much more like what you’ve already seen on the Galaxy S8.
The video shows off what is believed to be the screen protector of the iPhone 8, a phone Apple should release later this year alongside the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus. Like the S8 family, the handset has a design that features no bezels, but from the looks, it seems as if the phone will have zero bezels on the front. If this happens, there’s no doubt that Apple would have beat Samsung at its own game.
The Korean tech giant has been at the forefront when it comes to promoting bezel-less display screens. But up to now, only Xiaomi and Andy Rubin’s Essential have been able to achieve what can be termed as a bezel-less display. The two have no bezels on three sides, but the bottom side has one. Looking at the leaked video of the iPhone 8, there’s none at all, which could make the phone the first true bezel-less handset in the market.
Rumors have claimed that Apple will also beat Samsung in implementing an in-display fingerprint scanner. With a design that looks like what’s in this video, it’s possible that the Touch ID will indeed find a new home under the display panel of the upcoming iPhone 8.
In a separate report, someone close to Apple’s iPhone manufacturing team let slip a very important aspect of the iPhone 8. Wistron CEO Robert Hwang recently mentioned that future iPhones will not only come with waterproofing but also wireless charging support. Just in case you didn’t know, Wistron is a company in India that Apple recently added to its list of partner OEMs with respect to the manufacturing of iPhones. The company is based in India and at the moment, it only makes the iPhone SE, but it should also handle more models in future.
But as usual with rumors, take this one with a grain of salt.
