The Infinix S2 Pro has been a major revelation in the Kenyan smartphone market since its launch less than two weeks ago.
The phone ships with a first-of-its-kind in the Kenyan market feature – a dual-lens 13MP+8MP camera on the front panel. With the growing love Kenyans are showing for selfies, there’s no doubt that the Infinix S2 Pro is set to be a hit in the local smartphone industry, especially looking at its reasonable pricing of just ksh 15,699.
As you may know, the Infinix S2 Pro is the successor to last year’s Infinix Hot S and Hot S Pro. After Infinix Mobility ditched the “Hot” tag, the result was an S2 Pro, however, the company has remained silent on whether the standard Infinix Hot S will also be getting a successor in the shape of Infinix S2.
Even before this silence is broken, the standard Infinix S2 has appeared on Jumia Morocco and similar to the outgoing Infinix Hot S and Hot S Pro, the standard S2 carries just about the same specs as its Pro counterpart, but the RAM and storage are trimmed.
In Morocco, the Infinix S2 has been listed with the same specs and features as the Infinix S2 Pro apart from the fact that it comes with 2GB RAM and half the storage available on the S2 Pro variant. The dual-lens selfie camera, 13MP main camera, fingerprint scanner, 5.2-inch HD display screen with 2.5D glass, MediaTek MT6753 SoC and Android 6.0 Marshmallow that appears on the S2 Pro are also available on the standard S2. In short, the only difference between these two is memory capacity, both RAM and ROM.
Now, despite the fact that Infinix Mobility had kept silent on whether or not the Infinix S2 Pro will receive a partner, a previous appearance of the phone on Geekbench had suggested that it could be in the making. The same details that the benchmark listed in terms of processor and RAM have been confirmed in the latest listing on Jumia Morocco.
Interestingly, folks in Morocco haven’t yet received the Infinix S2 Pro locally via Jumia and there’s still no word on whether it will finally be unveiled in the market. But for the standard S2, you’ll need 1,849 Dhs to take it off Jumia’s shelves, which is about ksh 19,080 and way more than the ksh 15,699 the high-end S2 Pro is priced in Kenya.
However, you could also consider the current price of the Infinix S2 Pro on Jumia Kenya to be a discounted valuation, with the retailer listing the original price as ksh 19,995. As for the release of the standard Infinix S2 in Kenya, it’s anyone’s guess at the moment. But since both Hot S variants were released in the market, we at TWG expect to see this model hitting local stores as well, but possibly priced lower than the current price of the S2 Pro.
