The HTC U Ultra is one of the phones that are expected to be launched by HTC at a special event the company will hold on January 12.
Even though no confirmation has come from the company regarding the said three phones, reports from people close to the matter claim that there is an HTC U Play handset that will also be launched alongside the U Ultra phablet. Apparently, the other phones to be launched this Q1 2017 are HTC One X10 and HTC 11 (HTC E66), but it is the HTC U Ultra that had been touted for an early launch at next week’s event.
In the new leak, it seems the HTC U Play is the smaller sibling of the phablet U Ultra, but some features will be shared between the two phones. According to @OnLeaks, the new HTC U Play is codenamed Alpine and will come in with a 5.2-inch display screen as opposed to the 6-inch display panel expected on the HTC U Ultra.
Got it from same unverified source (see above) but I put it here anyway, again… ?#HTC Alpine = HTC U Play = 5.2" display = no 3.5mm Jack

The seasoned leaker also adds that the HTC U Play, like the U Ultra, will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of a USB-C connectivity port. Other than these, there is nothing else that can be gathered from this new leak. Interestingly, the details of the supposed HTC U Ultra have also remained elusive, with the only specs known to the world being the missing 3.5mm headphone jack as well as the aforementioned 6-inch display screen.
If indeed the HTC U Ultra is unveiled at the upcoming January 12th event, we’ll be able to know more about the new HTC U Play handset. Still, the company is also expected to launch the HTC 10 successor at the MWC event, but as for the HTC One X10, is still unknown, although sources point towards a Q1 2017 launch date for all four (previously three) phones.
