Google Hangouts 15 for Android 7.1 Nougat Adds a GIF Keyboard

Google Hangouts

Google Hangouts is one of the best communications app that Google has ever come out with. The app allows for seamless communication regardless of the device in use, be it a mobile phone, tablet, PC or even the web.

Even though Google Hangouts is no longer the go-to app for Android users, at least according to what Google would want us to believe, the search engine giant is still busy adding more and much better features to the chat app. In the latest update that sees the Hangouts app clock version 15, Android 7.1 Nougat users are the target market.

Of course, this market is still very small, with recent stats released by the company showing that the OS only runs on a mere 0.4% of all Android devices out there. However, this doesn’t mean more devices will not be joining the party. In addition, the fact that the new Google Hangouts 15 is meant for Android 7.1 Nougat users doesn’t mean those using other versions such as Marshmallow and Lollipop will not be getting the new features at some point in future.

If you are lucky enough to be part of the latest Android 7.1 Nougat, Google Hangouts 15 has a new feature for you – a GIF keyboard. This is not the first time this feature is appearing on Android devices. A few weeks ago, those using the Google Messenger app started seeing the new GIF keyboard, but this was only accessible via the Android 7.1 Nougat developer preview.

Even though the same feature has now made it to Google Hangouts 15, not every aspect of the app will support this new feature, at least for now. According to 9to5Google, this keyboard will now work for Google Voice messages. As usual with every software update, the latest Google Hangouts also comes with bug fixes as well as stability improvements.

If you are already using Android 7.1 Nougat on your phone, the latest Hangouts 15 is now available for download via the Google Play Store, but the rollout is still going on and it could take days or weeks before everyone finally sees the new update.
