Over the past few years, we’ve seen smartphone OEMs using guerilla tactics in a bid to attract more people to buy their devices, especially if they have premium price tags.
One notorious OEM that has been doing this is Samsung and recently, we also saw LG join the party with the launch of the LG G6. Buyers of the G6 get a free Google Home whereas those who bought the LG V20 got a free pair of B&O headphones.
Like last year, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ buyers are entitled to a free Gear VR headset. If you can shell out an extra $99, the tech giant will include a pair of AKG Bluetooth headphones and a huge 256GB microSD card. However, if you choose to purchase a new Galaxy S8 or S8+ between now and May 16, you will be rewarded with what the company is calling the Samsung Entertainment Kit.
One would be wondering what exactly this Samsung Entertainment Kit has that makes it worth all the hype. Well, for starters, the package on offer would set you back about $150 if you were to purchase it on your own. It consists of three products – a Clear View Standing Cover, a 64GB Samsung EVO+ microSD card and a 6-month free subscription to Netflix.
To give you a more vivid picture, the cover will set you back about $60, but the cost could be less depending on the color you choose. As for the storage card, it’s from the Class 10 and UHS-1 family, which means you have to part with $49, but you could get better deals on some retailers like Amazon.
For Netflix, six months of subscription will set you back about $60 and when summed up, you stand a chance of saving an impressive $170.
Apparently, you don’t have to worry about the retailer from where you purchase a Galaxy S8 or S8+, but be sure to hurry as Sammy says there are only 200K Entertainment Kits on offer.
