Confirmed: Tecno Phantom 6 Plus Android 7.0 Nougat Update coming in August

Tecno Phantom 6 Nougat

Tecno Phantom 6 and Phantom 6 Plus fans have been wearing a frustrated face since Android 7.0 Nougat started rolling out thanks to the lack of communication from Techno Mobile regarding the status of these two flagship phones with respect to the Nougat treat.

Many Phantom 6 and 6 Plus owners have been throwing tantrums as the company remained silent on whether the devices will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat or not. But there’s some really good news here as the tech giant has just confirmed that the update will finally come out this August, starting with the beast – the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus.

Yes, you read it right! Tecno Mobile, through the official Tecno Mobile forums, has finally confirmed that the Phantom 6 Plus will start receiving Android 7.0 Nougat OTA updates as from August, but there is no mention of a specific date. Despite this lack of a specific date, it comes as good news since many have been asking whether the device will be updated to the new OS or not.

While the company has mentioned the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus with respect to this Nougat treat, there’s no mention of the standard Phantom 6. But this doesn’t mean the handset won’t be updated to the new OS. Rather, the Nougat treat will begin with the Phantom 6 Plus before rolling out to other Tecno phones that are yet to be confirmed as at the time of this writing. We are confident that the standard Phantom 6 will be part of this update when it’s ready.

The company has also mentioned that this update will not only introduce Android 7.0 Nougat OS to the Phantom 6 Plus, but also update the skin running on top of the stock OS to HiOS 2.2. With these updates, you can expect a bunch of new features and performance improvements, just like any other software update would do.

Tecno Phantom 6 Nougat

The Tecno Phantom 6 and 6 Plus were unveiled last year and by the time the two start receiving Android 7.0 Nougat OS, it will be about time for the release of their successors – Phantom 7 and Phantom 7 Plus. So far, we’ve had a sneak preview of what the Phantom 7 will come with and to be honest, there is some good stuff being lined up, if the latest leaks are to be believed.

The Tecno Phantom 7 has made several stops on benchmarking website Geekbench and in the process revealing a number of upgrades. The obvious one is a new Android 7.0 Nougat OS running the show out of the box with HiOS 2.2 on top. Under the hood, the Phantom 7 will ship with an Helio P25 SoC (up from Helio P10 used on the Phantom 6) alongside an impressive 4GB RAM, which is also another upgrade from the 3GB module used on the 2016 model.
