BlackBerry KEYone was initially set for an April release following its launch back in February, but Chinese OEM TCL has now confirmed that the phone will start selling in the U.S. and Canada on the last day of next month.
While folks in the U.S. and Canada will have to wait for a full month before getting their hands on the BlackBerry KEYone, those in the UK – or those who can travel to London – can have the KEYone as at the time of this writing.
As if trying to build hype for the new phone, the Canadian company has confirmed that diehard fans can walk into the Selfridges store that is located on Oxford Street and get a new BlackBerry KEYone for £499 right away. This is the expected UK pricing of the phone, with the device to be priced at $549 and €599 in the U.S. and Europe, respectively.
If you live in Canada, the two companies have confirmed that the BlackBerry KEYone will be available for pre-orders via select carriers starting May 18. Here, you will be able to get your hands on the KEYone for just $199 CAD, but this is for a two-year contract. The carriers in question here include Telus Business, SaskTel, Rogers, Bell and Bell MTS. As for the U.S. market, the only confirmation from TCL is that the KEYone will support both GSM and CDMA carriers.
To keep you refreshed, the BlackBerry KEYone has a 4.5-inch display screen that is held in place by an anodized aluminum frame. This screen has a resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels, leading to a pixel density of 434ppi, but the major highlight of the phone’s design is the physical QWERTY keyboard.
In fact, BB calls it a Smart Keyboard because it can respond to touch gestures and to make it even more interesting, it’s possible to add up to 52 customized shortcuts. The phone has a fingerprint scanner that is embedded in the keyboard spacebar.
Under the hood, the BlackBerry KEYone has a Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with an Adreno 506 GPU and 3GB of RAM. You get 32GB of expandable storage, a 3505mAh battery unit, a 12MP main camera and an 8MP selfie shooter. The phone is quite heavy, weighing at 180g.
