ASUS has a surprise for users of the ZenPad 8.0 tablet that was released in May 2016 – exactly a year ago.
The ZenPad 8.0 variant in question here has model number Z380M and so far, this device has just started receiving the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS over the air.
Take note that this Nougat update has nothing to do with the older or rather 2015 model of this ASUS ZenPad 8.0 tablet. For now, this 2-year model will remain on Android Marshmallow until God knows when, but those on the 2016 variant can now look forward to enjoying the goodies of the new Nougat OS.
The updated ASUS ZenPad 8.0 will now carry software version 5.3.7. In addition to carrying the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS, the update also installs the latest Android security patch to the tablet as well as a bunch of bug fixes, stability and performance enhancements.
As noted earlier, this update is only available for ASUS ZenPad 8.0 with model number Z380M – the model that ships with a MediaTek MT8163 SoC that has been paired with 2GB RAM, a 5MP back camera and a 2MP front camera and for the battery, you get a 4000mAh unit.
The OEM hasn’t mentioned the size of the update, but since it’s carrying the latest Android Nougat OS, you can expect something quite big. Also, the update is rolling out over the air, which means it won’t hit all ZenPad 8.0 units at once.
If you don’t see the OTA notification today, be patient for it’s on the way. Otherwise, go to Settings>About device>System updates>Check for updates.
