OnePlus Twitter Post Hints at OnePlus 4 Release amid OnePlus 5 Rumors
OnePlus 3 was unveiled in June 2016, which makes it normal to have numerous speculations regarding the phone’s successor at such a point in time.
Rumors regarding the 2017 flagship killer have been here for some time now. In fact, we’ve heard talk of an alleged OnePlus 5 since late 2016, with proponents of this name adamant that the Chinese OEM will skip the OnePlus 4 tag due to the superstitions surrounding the number 4 in China and other Asian countries.
In these regions, the number 4 is considered evil since its pronunciation is something similar to death. As such, people in these countries tend to avoid using the number 4 in public. This is actually the major reason why Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have model numbers SM-G950/SM-G955, respectively, instead of the expected SM-G940/SM-G945, which should have followed the SM-G930/SM-G935 model numbers used on the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, respectively.
Having said that, we’ve heard rumors claiming that there won’t be a OnePlus 4 and instead, the tech giant will release a new OnePlus 5. In fact, the phone’s model number – A5000 – had already leaked at some point, confirming that indeed there won’t be a OnePlus 4. But there’s a sudden twist to this matter as the potential release of the OnePlus 3 successor draws closer.
According to a cryptic tweet made by OnePlus, it is possible that the tech giant will proceed with releasing a new OnePlus 4 in the coming days. The tweet includes the words “May the 4th be with you”, including the hashtag #StarWarsDay. The image used has the number 4 with what appears to be a cross or rather X, something that could mean anything, including a cancellation of the alleged OnePlus 4 in favor of OnePlus 5.

While there are uncertainties over the name of the OnePlus 3 successor, the story is quite different when it comes to the specs and features. Apparently, rumors have pointed towards the same 5.5-inch AMOLED display screen alongside a Full HD resolution, but some believe that the OnePlus 4 or OnePlus 5 for that matter, will be the first from the company to come with a QHD resolution. Under the hood, you can expect to meet the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 running the show alongside either 6GB or 8GB RAM.
There’s talk of a massive 256GB storage, but the base model should come with 128GB or maybe 64GB like last year’s models. Some rumors had claimed that the upcoming OnePlus flagship will feature a vertical dual-lens camera and even rendered photos of the same leaked, but a new report says otherwise, claiming that the arrangement will be horizontal, similar to the Xiaomi Mi 6.
In terms of battery power, the alleged OnePlus 4 will ship with a 3600mAh battery unit that supports 25% faster Dash Charge technology compared to OnePlus 3T. The battery will be charged via a USB-C port, but there are still some uncertainties regarding the 3.5mm audio jack.
